Michi-no-Eki are government-designated rest stops with free 24-hour parking. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) position: resting and napping in your vehicle is accepted — using the parking lot as accommodation is not. In practice, a quiet one-night rest in your campervan is tolerated at most stations, while camping behavior (chairs, tables, awnings, BBQ, long stays) is not. Individual stations can and do post their own explicit bans — that is exactly what this database tracks.

Verified entries link their sources — official station websites, the Japan RV Association register, and reports from the Japanese vanlife community — and carry the date we last checked them. Our rental fleet drives these routes weekly, and guest reports flow back into the database. Rules change; when we learn of a change, the entry and its date are updated.
All 145 stations were swept against Japan's published no-overnight lists on 2026-07-28, including the ban-list guides, the Japanese vanlife wikis and the on-site field-report sites that photograph station signage. Beyond that, 141 are individually verified — we opened that station's own website and cross-checked several sources, and every source is linked on its page with the date. The other 4 are not individually verified yet and say so plainly. We verify more every week.

One quiet night maximum, engine off, nothing outside the vehicle, no flames, park away from the entrance, keep quiet after 21:00, take your trash, and support the shop. Individual stations may post stricter rules — signs on site always override this database.
